Success Story 1: Enhancing the capacity of Zain Sudan’s backhaul

 

Our Client's Challenge

 

METCO has been the trusted partner of Zain (previously Mobitel) since 2005 for the provision of transmission infrastructure across the vast geography of Sudan. Zain's network in Sudan was originally designed and dimensioned to carry voice traffic. Rolling-out 3G services would have inevitably caused bottlenecks at multiple nodes of its network. The challenge for Zain was to launch 3G services commercially without causing service degradation, while optimizing CapEx and OpEx.

 

 

METCO's Engagement 

 

METCO, with its Mobile Backhaul solutions, provided a smooth and cost effective migration path that supports the evolution of mobile networks by leveraging existing network deployments without forklift upgrades or major service interruptions. It used advanced Ethernet Pseudowire and IP/MPLS technologies to support a seamless migration from 2G to 3G (and beyond) with reduced CapEx and OpEx, and quicker time-to-market. 

METCO implemented Tellabs Mobile Backhaul solutions which extended the packet-based network further toward the access limit. This resulted in significant cost savings and will boost return on investment for Zain Sudan operation. Our engagement with Zain Sudan was on turnkey basis, whereby we provided Project Management, planning and design, installation & commissioning, of outside plant services for optical networks, as well as operation & maintenance.

METCO has managed to complete the project in a limited timeframe, which allowed Zain Sudan to pioneer a successful launch of 3G services in the country.

 

 

Success Story 2: Supporting the expansion of Kuwait Finance House

 

Our Client's Challenge

 

Kuwait Finance House (KFH) is one of the leading financial institutions of Kuwait and operates the country's largest branch network. Its long standing business relationship with METCO started in 1985. KFH embarked since its establishment on an ambitious journey of expansion and needed a trusted partner to provide the communication infrastructure linking its headquarters and 60+ branches and offices in Kuwait, as well as the solutions to manage and operate its contact center and its communication network.

 

 

METCO's Engagement 

 

METCO developed a state-of-the-art call center of close to 100 seats for KFH. We provided adequate training to the call center agents to ensure readiness and provide unparalleled support to KFH's customers.

METCO's engagement with KFH also included the provision of unified communications solutions, starting from IP enablement in 2002 to the migration to an all-IP contact center in 2011. A prime example of METCO's application solutions to KFH is the implementation of a cutting-edge Network Operations Center (NOC) in 2009.

Today KFH operates a highly available network across Kuwait. METCO's involvement has helped standardize KFH's technology platforms across all branches. As a result, monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance of the network is done easily and swiftly.

KFH is also widely recognized in Kuwait for being a leader in customer care.

 

 

Success Story 3: Consolidating networks of Zain Iraq and Iraqna (Orascom)

 

Our Client's Challenge

 

In 2007, Zain, Iraq's leading GSM service provider, acquired Orascom's mobile operation in the country. It was then faced with the challenge of consolidating two networks of comparable size, harmonizing the usage of the operators' frequencies, merging operation and maintenance capabilities, and continue providing seamless services to the customers of both networks.

 

 

METCO's Engagement 

 

Zain entrusted METCO to develop and implement the merger cutover plan for the microwave transmission infrastructure, taking into consideration constraints related to the security situation that was prevailing, transportation difficulties, equipment availability, and the complexity of integrating networks provided by three different equipment vendors. METCO also engineered a physical rerouting and re-parenting plan, and revised frequency channels allocations.  

 

 

Value Provided

 

As a result of METCO's service, Zain has unified its microwave transmission suppliers and simplified transmission operations and maintenance. METCO has delivered on its engagement within less than 4 months and without disrupting customer service levels. Today METCO and its affiliates continue to support Zain with 400 engineers and technicians, and remains Zain's partner of choice in Iraq since 2003 when METCO first deployed a full-fledge microwave transmission infrastructure for Zain across its area of coverage.
